Kathy Xu is a Partner and China Country Head at Baring Asia Private Equity Funds I & II (“the Funds”) which collectively manage over US$550 million for investment in Asia. She has been responsible for the investment activity in China and Hong Kong since joining the Funds in early 1998. Out of 8 investments she originated in China, Kathy has managed to exit five of them and generated a total return of US$150m on a cost of capital of US$50m.

Kathy has a broad range of investment experience including early stage VC investments, expansion capital and buyouts in Greater China. She also has extensive board experience and served as a director of several companies in Greater China including three listed companies Netease, Vanda Systems and Launch Tech.

Kathy was previously an investment manager at Peregrine Direct Investments in Hong Kong. Prior to that, she was a senior auditor of Price Waterhouse Hong Kong and a manager of Bank of China Head Office. She currently serves as a board director of China Venture Capital Association and was elected one of the “Top Venture Capitalist” in China by Digital Fortune magazine and Zero2ipo Ltd. Kathy was also awarded “The Most Outstanding Female Staff” at Bank of China Head Office.

Kathy graduated from Nanjing University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and is qualified as a UK Certified Public Accountant. She speaks fluent English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
