The panel discussion will revolve around the following sub-themes:
In view of the increasing competition in Europe and limited investing opportunities, the Panel will discuss what the best way forward is in delivering better value for its stakeholders. Would it involve making investments in developing industries or new sectors typically not assessed before?
The Panel will also discuss the impact of broader macro trends including rising commodity prices and changing composition of industrialized economies on VC investing in emerging areas such as alternative energy, nanotechnology, bio-medical devices and internet based services. The Panel will then debate on the increasing depth of knowledge required to properly assess investment opportunities.
During the second half of the session, the Panel will discuss the pragmatism of a sector focused investment philosophy, the advantages and disadvantages of such a philosophy, the skills required and the risks associated. The panel will also address the compensating measures needed where a focussed investment approach has not yielded the desired return. Finally, it will discuss how does an investment philosophy benefit the investors and the entrepreneurs and if it enables a firm to attract better quality investments in the future. |
